freeza inc. v3.0 details |

Hey everyone, if you have seen the previous post I made regarding fi 3.0 preview, then you already know a little of what's going on.
I've been mia for quite some time trying to figure out where I want to go with the site, and have decided to make the move from 5 years with phpBB, which is a great board from the phpBB group, to the more mature vBulletin.
Quick FI history:
2002: Invision Power Board (v1)
2003-2008: phpBB v2.x (v2)
2009-?: vBulletin (v3)
What does this mean for me?
Well, after a lot of thought and consideration, i've come to the conclusion that I will NOT be porting any of the usernames or posts over to the new forum. Infact, you will have to re-register and anything you've had from this forum will not be transferred over.
But why?
This move signifies a drastic change in mangement and direction of fi. It will move away from the seemingly immature style of the old forum and introduce a more professional hopefully much more mature community and will focus on a more broad range of services.
Umm WHY?
Because, after years of being centered around bullshit, drama, and stuck in a position that isn't moving forward, i've decided to try something new.
That sucks, what happens to all the old stuff?
I assure you, it does not suck at all. This forum will still be linked as a read-only archive so that people may still have a look at our past. I'm not sure how long this will be the case.
Oh, that's okay I guess. What advantages does vBulletin have?
It's a much more robust forum which offers a ton of new features compared to phpBB. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed using phpBB for the years i've had it, but it is time for a change. You'll just have to see the advantages for yourself, because explaining them is useless.
I guess, but what about my rupees, status, and other things?
Sorry, but as i've said before, none of that will be transferred. People who have received special privileges in the past such as rupees, moderation status, vip status, and other things will no longer have them. Moderators will go through a thorough interview process which will determine eligibility. You cannot request moderator status. If and when we feel that we'd like someone on our team, we will contact that person.
That sucks man, i've known you for ___ years!
Tough shit. Trying to help out everyone has gotten me absolutely no where. People are very ungrateful and tend to abuse their power when they aren't chosen for the job in a more professional manner.
What will the new FI focus on?
Well, for starters it won't be anything AOL/AIM related that's for sure. We're making the move to eliminate all relationships to AOL, its community, and it's environment altogether.
Thank god, that shit sucked anyway
I agree, people will have to come here to download any old programs that are related to AOL. The new site won't have any trace of them.
Well, I guess it looks like it could be good
Trust me, it will be. The new forum will come with a warning/infraction system that will not show favortism. Members who insist on causing trouble outside of the allowed forums will incur proper warnings/infractions and may have their accounts suspended and/or banned and will not be unbanned unless a moderator or administrator sees fit. There will be no special cases.
Finally, some equality!
I agree. However, VIP and Elite members will no doubt get more privileges. VIP status will be given to those who show a helpful attitude towards members, is an avid poster, and has contributed a significant amount to the community. Elite memberships are up in the air as of now, I'm not sure how I am going to implement it yet, but it will be well worth it.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this and I hope this change brings about a brand new thriving community!
